So many books, so little time…but we had to stop and share this interview with USA Today Bestselling author, Samantha LaFantasie. Not only has Samantha written fantasy and sci-fi, but now she has a magical realism short story that will be coming out next month in the Magic Unveiled anthology (publisher: Creative Alchemy, Inc.).
We decided to ask a little about her story, and the process that she went through–as well as some fun randomness 🙂
Author Interview: Samantha LaFantasie
- Tell us about your story in the upcoming Magic Unveiled anthology, and why it’s going to affect readers?
My story is about a girl who comes from a long line of witches and has never had a dream. That is, until it happens, and comes true that same day. After learning that she was chosen to release the Goddess Isis from her captivity, she is thrust into a world of unknown and has to face many trials by herself.
- What’s your definition of magical realism (as a genre)? What gives it a unique quality?
Magical Realism, to me, is the beautiful blend of reality and fantasy, delivered in a way that is believable and gives just enough to us to question, what if?
- What was the most difficult part about writing or fine-tuning your story?
Figuring out just how much to put in the story to keep it within the required limits. I really enjoyed getting to know Audrey and her story. I didn’t want to stop!
- What are the benefits to producing an anthology with other authors?
I’m honored to be a part of this anthology because of the amazing and talented authors that have contributed to it. I love the group so much. I think we all have the same idea, just delivering our own versions and twists, so getting to know others of the same mindset has been refreshing and gives me some new authors to add to my to-be-read pile. Honestly, it’s teamwork at its finest. We are all here to deliver our dreams within text and share them with the world. Very inspiring and very cool that I can be a part of it.
- If you could choose to be a character in your short story, you would be…
Audrey’s mom. Perhaps, there’s a little bit of me in both?
- Pick two of your co-authors to have over for dinner. Why?
Alesha Escobar and Devorah Fox. Simply put: these ladies have been with me since the beginning of my career and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. Plus, we haven’t met in person yet. And we should! Besides, I live with one co-author, so he doesn’t count!
- Would you rather have immortality or immense power (financial, political)?
I’m not sure I would rather have either of those things. Unless, of course, I can share my immortality with my family and closest friends. Immense power? Meh. That saying: absolute power corrupts absolutely comes to mind. Though I doubt I really would let things get to my head, it has been proven that the best of us all is corrupted by that intoxicating word. However, if it was financial power, then I would likely be corrupted and sainted at the same time! I’m a giver, and that power would definitely go to my head.
- What can we expect next from you?
I have a few things in the works. Very early stages of co-authoring a supernatural thriller with my childhood best friend. The Dark Ones is in editing still, and I plan to query that once I have it back and polished. I’m toying with a few ideas that are brewing with notes and brainstorming.
- Where can readers find out more about your books?
Thanks, Samantha! And Readers, don’t forget, MAGIC UNVEILED releases on October 13, but you can still get the pre-order for 0.99¢ so do it today!
